IMPORTANT NOTE: Although possession of a concealed carry license is not a requirement, it is imperative that you have a solid understanding of the fundamentals of shooting.

REQUIRED EQUIPMENT: handgun (preferably 9mm / .38 Special and above), strong-side belt holster, at least 3 magazines / speed loaders, dual magazine holder, eye & ear protection, ball cap, lawn chair, lunch, drinks (I will have a 5 gallon water container with cups), sun block, insect repellent, boots (if wet) and appropriate clothing for the weather. NRA Instructor Course

Defensive Handgun Training, LLC is pleased to announce a special course weekend for the NRA Instructor Course.
Saturday May 14 and Sunday May 15, 2011 from 0800 to 1800 (6 pm) both days. You must attend both days of this course.
This course includes:
- NRA BASIC INSTRUCTOR COURSE
- NRA PISTOL INSTRUCTOR COURSE
- NRA HOME FIREARM SAFETY INSTRUCTOR COURSE
The NRA BASIC INSTRUCTOR COURSE is only required for those who are not NRA Instructors and is approx 5 hours long.
The NRA PISTOL INSTRUCTOR COURSE is the qualification that will allow you to teach both the Ohio & Florida Permit Courses & to teach for Boy Scouts and 4H.
The cost for this course is $260. The cost of material for this course is high, probably approaching $50 for each student. Cost of the course is less for those who do not have to attend the NRA BASIC INSTRUCTOR COURSE.
WHERE: Union, KY at my usual training site.
BRING: Shooting gear, lunch, snacks, drinks, pen, & paper.
The NRA is very rigid on how this course is taught, but we end up having fun and learning a lot from one another. This course is heavy on YOU teaching. You will find that the hardest time to ever teach is when you are teaching other instructors. But we have some fun with it.

EMERGENCY AND DISASTER PREPAREDNESS COURSE FOR THE INDIVIDUAL AND FAMILY
Joe will be teaching an emergency and disaster preparedness course for free for anyone to attend. This course will cover a lot of material and will give you a strong foundation on how you can prepare for natural or man made disasters. There will also be some materials provided, such as a sample packing list. Bring a pen or pencil and some paper to this free course, details are as follows:

October 16, 2010 Tactical Rifle Course

Defensive Handgun Training is pleased to announce a tactical rifle course for Saturday, October 16, 2010.
Regarding the rifle, the course will be predicated on the AR & AK platforms in regards to operational controls, however, other rifles such as the SKS, Ruger Mini-14, FN FAL, etc are perfectly acceptable. However, this course is not a precision sniper-type course, so rifles with high-powered optics is not appropriate for this course. Iron sights or rifles with optics such as: Aimpoint, Trijicon ACOG, EO Tech, etc. are welcome.
NOTE: If you have a Class III firearm or device (full-auto, suppressor, short barreled rifle), it will be required to bring your federal tax stamp to the course.
You will also want to bring a handgun and holster to this course as part of it will focus on the transition to the handgun from the rifle.

Hey everyone,
I will not be conducting any classes for the month of September due to family commitments and other scheduling items. I will resume teaching again in October, so please check back on September 20, 2010 for those class listings.
If you haven’t signed up to be notified any time we post class offerings via email, please do so on the upper right of the site. Your email is safe and secure with us and we won’t spam you or sell it to anyone.

Monday August 16, 2010 KY, OH and FL non-resident CCW Course

We will be offering the Kentucky, Ohio and Florida non-resident CCW course on Monday, August 16, 2010.
NOTICE: You must be a resident of Kentucky for the Kentucky CCW Course and an Ohio resident for the Ohio/Florida Course. Please sign up for the course appropriate to where you live due to residency requirements.
NOTICE: Due to logistical issues around no-shows and payment collections, the full course payment is now required at least one week prior to the course. If your payment in full is not received by one week prior to the course, you will be removed from the registration and your spot filled from the standby list.
The Kentucky CCW portion will be from 8:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. and the Ohio and Florida course will continue until 8:00 p.m.
The cost of the KY CCW is $85 and the OH/FL CCW is $125 (you get both the OH and FL CCW permits with residency requirements).

WHERE: Union, KY (address and directions will be provided once you sign up).
COURSE CONTENT: This course is designed to build on what was taught in the Advanced Concealed Carry Course. You are required to have attended the Advanced Concealed Carry course in order to register and attend this course. Exceptions are made for people with prior experience, such as military and law enforcement. Please use the contact form if you think you should be exempted from this requirement.

Shooting from Cover
Multiple Target Engagement
Close Quarters Shooting
Point Shooting
Strong and Weak Hand Shooting

COURSE CONTENT: This course is specifically designed for those with concealed carry permits and will cover the following subject matter:

- Fundamentals of Shooting
- Drawing from a Holster & Drawing from Concealment
- Emergency & Tactical Reloading
- Malfunction Clearing Drills
- Conflict Avoidance
- Use of Deadly Force
- Precision Shooting Techniques
- Balancing Speed & Accuracy
- Close Quarters Combat Shooting
- Point Shooting

IMPORTANT NOTE: Although possession of a concealed carry license is not a requirement, it is imperative that you have a solid understanding of the fundamentals of shooting.
COST: $150. Full course pre-payment is required.
REQUIRED EQUIPMENT: handgun (preferably 9mm / .38 Special and above), strong-side belt holster, at least 3 magazines / speed loaders, dual magazine holder, eye & ear protection, ball cap, lawn chair, lunch, drinks (I will have a 5 gallon water container with cups), sun block, insect repellent, boots (if wet) and appropriate clothing for the weather. The Advanced Concealed Carry Course is a pre-requisite to attending the Handgun Tactics Course.
